Descendants of Thomas Hughes Cook, who (according to family lore) was a Baptist, a Republican, a hard worker, and had "a lot of Irish in him”. An interesting message from Terry Lawson: "...Pickens County was not 100% Confederate in the WBTS. Much of the available research by Robert Scott Davis on this subject will be found at the website below along with information on my DARNELL and HARBIN kin who were participants in the War in the mountains. Also found there is information and rosters for the 65th Georgia (CSA) which had men from the area, some probably from Pickens; and the little known 1st Georgia (USA) which included men from Pickens. Site owner is Michael Gay, a nice guy (fer a Yankee-grin). CAUTION: Some families are still sensitive to these events. Best wishes from Terry...GG-grandson of John Darnell, USA and GG-grandson of Benjamin Harben, CSA" A site maintained by Mike Gee whose family may have been connected with Gee Mountain in western Pickens County Carol Ann Tindell researches several Pickens County families: Akins, Bowers, Hammontree, Mayfield and Seay Genealogy Reports of Caldwell, James, Bailey, and Mullins families from near Talking Rock, Georgia (allied lines: Fulton, Godfrey, Holcombe, Dunnagan)...by Sylvia Caldwell Rankin
